About

Kimberly Duran is an artist residing in the sunny countryside of Paso Robles, California with her husband, American bulldog mix, and a small flock of chickens. She spends a good deal of time in nature. She tends and cultivates a lush private garden that spans over five acres, from which she harvests a number of the elements that go into her artwork.

Much of her time is spent in her garden, which boasts the features of bamboo groves, meandering walking paths beneath hundreds of trees, and a large pond inhabited by butterfly koi fish, amongst other aquatic creatures. The tranquil water feature lures in a selection of wildlife, including deer, foxes, raccoons, rabbits and squirrels in abundant numbers. The occasional mountain lion has left its paw prints behind in passing. She has watched many generations of feathered friends raise their young within the protection of the leafy canopies about her property, including owls, ravens, and hawks.  It is a place with boundless inspiration for the observant and nature-connected artist.

Kimberly works out of her home, surrounding herself with the natural beauty of the place, as well as her own art. She enjoys using found, recycled, and natural materials to create something interesting to gaze upon. She has hand-painted on gourds in acrylics, oils and dyes, studied oil on canvas, and shown her work in a variety of galleries and art shows in California and Nevada.

In recent years she has tried her hand at papercrete sculptures, using her own recipe of paper, cement, and joint compound, developed with much trial and error, until it yielded perfect results. Using her optimal papercrete medium, she creates her sculptures one thin layer at a time. Each layer must dry completely before another can be added. It is a slow process, and it can take months to finish a piece as she builds it up to create the desired piece of art. It isn’t finished until she loves living with each piece of art she sculpts.
